Richie Hawtin reveals his latest DJ set-up, offering a vision of how the digital and analog worlds merge to create another level of new and exciting sound. Using the Model 1 Mixer as his main controller, Richie Hawtin talks us through using loops and songs, choosing effects and simplifying with a fixed network of devices - Ableton Push for percussion, Urorax system Metropolis and Atlantis sequencer and synthesiser and Traktor.
Richard "Richie" Hawtin is a British-Canadian electronic musician and DJ. A three-time DJ Awards winner, he became involved with Detroit techno's second wave in the early 1990s and has been a leading exponent of minimal techno since the mid-1990s. In 2020, he released a new AI soundscape app called Deeper Focus, dedicated to adapting sound to personal environments. He is known under his Plastikman and F.U.S.E. aliases, which both debuted in 1993. His father worked as a robotics technician at General Motors and was a fan of electronic music, introducing his son to Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream at an early age.
